From the Inside Out
ANGEL AT THE AIRPORT
Maria
Land was on her way from Dallas, Texas, back to Helsinki, Finland,
her native country. It was a business trip that she would take without
her husband or their two-year-old. It was my second business
trip back home since we had moved to the United States, Maria
says. But this time I was on my own.
Changing
planes at the Kennedy airport in New York can be challenging for
the most experienced travelers. But Maria felt fortunate
her arriving and departing flights were on adjacent terminals connected
by a tunnel, just like last time. Confidently she passed the flight
attendants providing information, and hurriedly walked toward the
tunnel. She would have only a half hour to find and board the only
daily flight to Helsinki.
But
this
did not look right. I made a wrong turn, and suddenly found
myself where I was not supposed to be, Maria says. I
started to sweat. Hurriedly she retraced her steps and saw
a big map ahead, surrounded by people. Lord, she prayed,
"send me an angel to guide my way."
It
was merely a wish, Maria says. She wasnt sure she believed
in angels. But she did need some help. She had spent ten precious
minutes getting lost, and she could not afford another mistake.
Determined,
she stared at the map. A red dot stated, You are here,
but where was that? Maria took a deep breath, and just then heard
a courteous voice. Do you need assistance?
He
was tall, brown haired and inconspicuous, wearing brown trousers,
and a checked jacket, and carrying only a New York Times folded
under his arm. (Later, Maria would describe him as a character from
a 50s movie.) You are lost, right? he asked
again, smiling. Maria
wanted to deny it. It was not just a matter of pride. To agree with
him meant admitting that she was afraid. Instead she nodded. I
need to go to
I
know, he answered. Well go this way. Mutely,
Maria followed him, dragging her suitcase and laptop along. How
had he known she was going to Finland? Her clothes? She was dressed
like any professional American woman. Had he seen her ticket? But
how? He seemed to be constantly one step ahead of me,
Maria says, so there was no opportunity to ask him. As we
passed a row of shops, I began to wonder who he was. Maybe I was
getting involved with someone not so nice. And yet, for some
reason, she trusted him
As
if he had heard her thoughts, her guide slowed his pace, turned
around, and made a friendly comment about the weather. Weather is
always a safe subject. Yes, indeed.. Maria began, then
stopped. There was the entrance to the tunnel right ahead of her.
She knew exactly where she was now. Gate 6 was at the end of this
tunnel, and she had enough time left to board the plane. Of
course! He was taking the plane too. Thats why he had known
where to go. "Are you heading also to Helsinki?" she asked.
"Yes", he nodded. So we are taking the same plane!
Maria was happy about this. But her guide shook his head. Another
plane? Maria asked. Yes, some other, he confirmed.
It
didnt make sense, but she wouldnt keep him any longer.
Thank you so much for your help, she said. I can
find the right gate now. He turned and walked a little way
with her, then stopped and said goodbye. As
he did so, Maria noticed three teenage boys coming towards her,
wearing odd expressions. Who are you talking to? one
asked as they reached her. Why, this gentleman. Maria
turned around to point.
But
there was no one there. The entire long tunnel was empty. There
was no pillar, no store or door where he could have disappeared
in this brief moment, she says. The boys were still looking
at her, as if she was having some sort of breakdown
Maria
passed them and hurried to the gate. Just a few moments later, the
jet was airborne. Maria leaned back in relief. I thought of
all that had just happened, she says. How the man just
knew where I was going. How he did not need any instructions. How
we had had a telepathic connection. The odd answer he had given
to me. And most of all how he had disappeared.
There
was only one logical conclusion, she decided. She had asked for
an angel to guide her, and she had received exactly that. There
is more in this world than we know with our limited senses,
she says. Angels are real.

Yes You Can!
SENSE THE SUBTLE
"I
go to nature to be soothed and healed,
and to have my senses put in tune once more." ~ John Burroughs
Recently
I was asked how I sense subtle energy. I've been immersed in vibrational
healing for so long that I sometimes forget what a foreign subject
it is for many individuals.
We
all have the ability to see, hear, and feel the subtle
vibrations emanating from the energy that exists all around and
through us. I call these the subtle skills. Since humans only use
about 10% of their brain, most people have lost the ability to access
the part of the brain that makes that possible. Telepathy and ESP
are natural abilities. They just need to be developed.
We
are born with these skills. A small child will tell their parent
that there is someone standing in their room. Since the parent can't
see the "being," they tell the child that there is no-one
there. Some parents make fun of the child and say the "boogie
man" is going to get them. Other parents accuse the child of
lying and punish them. Either scenario makes the child question
what they saw because parents know everything. Eventually
the self-doubt causes them to completely shut down the subtle sensing
abilities. Often by the time a child reaches the first grade they
have already completely turned off these skills.
A
few people are able to maintain the skills throughout their life.
They often are ridiculed as being weird and quickly learn to keep
quiet about what they sense. They themselves often wonder if they
are actually insane hearing voices or seeing things that
others don't. As a person wakes up from their illusions and begins
pursuing spirituality, they begin accessing the subtle skills once
more.
I
personally feel things. People with that ability are referred
to as clairsentient. I can hold a crystal and feel a pulse,
a vibration, a warmth, or a coolness. I've always loved feeling
things. I will walk through a clothing store and touch the various
fabrics. I love the softness of a dog or cat's fur. I love the feeling
I get when I step into warm water in the bath or the tropics.
I love how a storm feels the power, the wind, the intensity
of energy. I can feel the anger, tension, or love in a room, or
in a person. I
only hear and see subtle energy on occasion. I have found that experiencing
a Shamanic journey or guided meditation allows me to access those
subtle skills.
Some
people hear voices or sounds. People with that ability are referred
to as clairaudient. Many people have experienced hearing
a ringing or high-pitched tone in one ear for a short period of
time. At first they may think that it is a hearing problem or some
mechanical device nearby. Its actually high frequency tones that
they are briefly able to sense. Several people are blessed with
hearing the angelic choirs singing.
Everything
is energy. Energy is vibration. Everything that exists is giving
off a vibration. All vibration creates sound usually too
subtle to hear. Some people can tap into that. The angels, the dolphins,
the Ascended Masters, are all present right here right now. They
just exist in dimensions that vibrate faster than ours. The average
person can't sense them because it requires being at a higher vibration
in order to tap into those dimensions. Also the beta brainwaves
have to be slowed down. Another way to put that is the conversation
that is constantly going on inside one's head must be quieted. Meditation
or spending time in nature is the perfect way to accomplish that.
Everyone
has one or more Guides that work with them that communicates continuously
with their Soul. Some people actually see these beings. People with
that ability are referred to as clairvoyant. What they see
may be crystal clear, as real as you and me, or it might be a very
bright light, or ghostlike, or shadowy. I'm sure there are as many
ways to see them as there are people. People
with clairvoyance are always commenting about the dolphins they
see around me. I've heard many times that there is a 6-foot dolphin
just behind me and to the left. I'll just have to take their word
for it because I haven't seen it myself.
A
word of caution about what you sense yourself and what you
are told by others: Whatever a person hears, sees, or feels is tainted
by their own illusions about life the beliefs, fears, and
judgments they hold that are not the Divine Truth. A person may
hear words from a very high vibrational being such as an
Ascended Master. But, what the voice says and what the person hears
can be very different. Never blindly believe what a person tells
you they were "told." Check it out in your own heart and
see if it feels like truth. If a person is caught up in their own
anger, fear, disease, belief about a particular issue, karma or
something else, what they tell you isn't always 100% accurate. So
always use discernment. This is true of books, seminars, well-meaning
friends everyone. All humans have limitations. Channeling
can be fascinating, but the messages are only as clear as the
channel. And even a typically clear channel can have an off
day.
Spend
time alone in nature or meditating as often as possible and your
subtle skills will begin to naturally unfold. As John Burroughs
said, your senses will be put "in tune" once more.

JUEGO DE PELOTA

Chichén Itzá, Mexico

Across from the Pyramid of Kukulkán, stands the Great Ball
Court of Chichén Itzá. The size of a modern football
field, its the largest arena of its kind in Mexico. The Mayas
game involved two teams, each able to hit the ball only with elbows,
wrists or hips. Projecting from each wall, 25 ft above the ground,
are sculptured stone rings in the form of two entwined serpents.
The object was to knock a hard rubber ball through these hoops.
This sacred game was one of their most important forms of ritual
activity. Upon entering Juego de Pelota, visitors are struck
by the acoustics of the stadium and its surrounding temples. These
acoustics remain an architectural mystery. Low whispers at one end
of the court can be clearly heard at the other end, over 500 feet
away.

Laughing It Off
IT'S A CRAZY LANGUAGE
Let's
face it English is a crazy language ...
We'll
begin with a box, and the plural is boxes;
but the plural of ox became oxen not oxes.
One
fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
yet the plural of moose should never be meese
You
may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice;
yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.
If
the plural of man is always called men,
why shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If
one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?
Then
one may be that, and three would be those,
yet hat in the plural would never be hose,
and the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We
speak of a brother and also of brethren,
but though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then
the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
but imagine the feminine, she, shis and shim.
You
have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language when it says ...
The bandage was wound around the wound.
The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
He could lead if he would get the lead out.
A bass was painted on the head of a bass drum on third base.
The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
After a number of Novocain injections, my jaw got number.
I spent last evening evening out a pile of dirt.
If
we explore the paradoxes of the English language, we find ...
There
is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;
neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
If
you have a rough cough, climbing can be tough
when going through the bough on a tree!
Quicksand
can work slowly, boxing rings are square and
a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
Doesn't
it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend?
If
you have a bunch of odds and ends and
get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?
How
can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same,
while a wise man and a wiseguy are opposites?
And
finally if Dad is Pop, how come Mom isn't Mop?

MEET PHOEBE

Photo:
REUTERS/Peter Macdiarmid

Phoebe,
a Malaysian giant stick insect...
measuring 18 inches (45cm), balances on the hand
of a member of staff at London Zoo. Phoebe her name comes
from the Latin term for the species, Phoebaeticus serratipes
uses her hook-like feet to cling to her keeper or anything
else around. Malaysian giant stick insects are the longest insects
in the world. The longest adult specimen recorded, spotted in a
Malaysian forest, measured 22 inches from tip to toe, with a body
just under a foot long. The insect is herbivorous, eating plant
leaves only and in general, females are much larger than males.
The male can fly, but the female can only glide. Phoebe hatched
in April 2004 from tiny egg, which had been laid in a batch of 60
at the Rotterdam Zoo, sent to London to form a breeding group.

Joyful Lifestyles: Weekly Insights
DEALING WITH BURN-OUT
Do
you pop aspirin almost every day to deal with your sore neck,
back, or head? Do you work such long hours that you sometimes
forget your childrens names? Watch out! You might be headed
for a burnout, and once youve let yourself go that far,
you may never be the same again. Burnout
can cause long-term chemical changes in your body that remain
even after you feel better, according to new research. These changes
make you more vulnerable to stress, and to catching diseases like
colds and flu.
Shirra
Moch is a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology and Health
Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg,
South Africa. She specializes in research on stress. As reported
by MSN Web MD, Moch and her colleagues conducted a study on people
who suffered a stress burnout so severe that they were hospitalized.
Normally,
when peoples bodies are stressed by an illness, or their
minds are stressed by a trauma, or even an argument with a spouse,
the body starts to pump out a hormone called cortisol. This hormone
actually helps the body fight off disease. Many overstressed people
have too much cortisol, but the people Shira Moch studied actually
had low cortisol levels.
Mochs
patients were given intensive stress management therapy while
they were in the hospital, which included medicine as well as
courses in Meditation, Breathing, Exercise and Nutrition. They
also saw a social worker who taught them how to handle stressful
situations and a psychiatrist who gave them talking therapy
for stress release. The
intense stress management worked to a point. The people
with burnout did start to feel better and were able to go back
to work and live normal lives. However, their cortisol levels
have remained low, even five months later. This means they remain
more susceptible to diseases like colds and flu and are more likely
to have another burnout if they dont stick to the stress
management changes they were taught.
Shira
Moch presented these findings at the annual meeting of the International
Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology. When they feel well,
they start to backslide right away on the stress management program,
says Moch. Its only when they start to feel sick again
that they think, oh yes, I have to do all this stuff again!
Were trying to educate them that this is lifestyle change.
Given the devastating effects severe stress burnout can have on
the body, Moch recommends a Three R approach
Recognize,
Reverse, and Resilience:
You
can Recognize signs of an oncoming burnout by looking for
regular, unexplained pain like headaches and stomach problems.
You can Reverse the damage by getting help from a therapist
or someone trained in stress management.
You can make yourself more Resilient to stress by exercising,
eating well, putting energy into your personal relationships,
taking time to relax, practicing stress management, and dealing
with, rather than avoiding, specific issues that tend to stress
you out.
